The Annapurna Sanctuary offers the quickest way to get to the heart of the Himalayas where glaciers replace rivers. Some of the best of Nepal's diversity is compressed into less than two weeks of walking. The huge south face of Annapurna (8090 m.) provides an impressive backdrop, while the closeness of 10 peaks over 6000 m. inspires a joy as a fitting highlight of this spectacular trek. The trek begins at Pokhara with a walk up to Landruk or Ghandruk. Ghandruk (2012m.) is one of the largest Gurung villages in Nepal, producing more Gorkha soldiers than any other place in the kingdom. With its superb views of Machhapuchhre, Annapurna South and Hiunchuli, it is a great place to spend a day or two.
